The Gila Conservation Education Center was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2004. Its mission is to promote conservation in Southwest New Mexico through education, example, and involvement.

GCEC is a grant and contributor funded organization. Grantors for the 2007-2008 school year included Aldo Leopold Hight School, the Collaborative Forestry Restoration Program, The Nature Conservancy, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and the Upper Gila Watershed Alliance. Grantors for the 2008-2009 school include to date the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, New Mexico Office of Border Health, Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The Gila National Forest, and The Wellness Coalition have contributed major in-kind support throughout both terms. THANK YOU grantors and contributors.
